Harvest statistics
Overview of cervid harvesting in Norway, with historical trends and comparisons.
Every year hunters report harvest data to the municipalities, which is forwarded to Statistics Norway (SSB) and the Cervid Register. This data forms the basis for wildlife management in Norway and is used to set quotas and population plans.
Below you can explore harvest numbers for deer, moose and roe deer. Compare counties and municipalities, see how populations develop over time, and find the areas with the highest buck ratio.
How to read the statistics
Allocated permits
Number of animals the municipality has permitted to be harvested. Set based on population targets and minimum area.
Total harvested
Number of animals actually harvested during the season. Lower than allocated means hunters didn't fill the quota.
Harvest rate
Percentage of allocated permits used. A high rate indicates a healthy population and accessibility.
Buck ratio
Proportion of adult bucks in harvest numbers. Used to assess population structure and management quality.
