About wild boar hunting
Wild boar hunting is relatively new in Norway but has grown quickly as the population increases along the Swedish border. It is demanding hunting that requires a different approach than traditional Norwegian big game hunting.
Most wild boar are taken at night from stands over bait sites, often with trail cameras to map activity. Boar are nocturnal and cautious, so hunting usually happens in the dark with approved night-vision or thermal optics.
Driven hunts with dogs are also effective. Many Swedish hunting teams have long experience with this. The dog finds and bays the boar, and the hunter closes in to shooting range.
Use a powerful caliber. Wild boar are tough and tenacious. .308 or .30-06 with a heavy bullet is the minimum. Safety is especially important because wounded boar can be aggressive.

Weight
Levende vekt: 50–200 kg. Slaktevekt ca. 55–60%.
Distribution
Villsvinet er en relativt ny art i Norge, med økende forekomst i grenseområdene mot Sverige, særlig i Østfold og Hedmark. Enkeltdyr observeres stadig lenger vest og nord.
Terrain
Villsvinet foretrekker løvskog og blandingsskog med tilgang til jordbruksmark. Det roter i jorda etter røtter og insekter, og gjør stor skade på avlinger og beiteområder.
Identification
Mørk, børsteaktig pels. Kompakt, kraftig kropp med kort hals og lang snute. Galten har synlige hjørnetenner.
Hunting Tips
Sett ut viltkamera for å kartlegge trekkruter og tidspunkt. Villsvinet er ekstremt nattaktivt. Samarbeid gjerne med svenske jaktlag som har erfaring.
