.30-06 Springfield
A classic large caliber. More energy than .308, well suited for moose and long-range shooting.
.30-06 Springfield is one of the world's oldest and most proven hunting calibers. Developed in 1906 for the US military, it saw service in both World Wars.
The caliber delivers more energy than .308 Winchester because the case is longer and holds more powder. This means higher velocity with heavy bullets and better performance at long range.
For moose hunting, .30-06 is a solid choice. With 180 grain (11.7 g) bullets, it provides good killing power at all normal hunting distances.
Recoil is noticeably stronger than 6.5x55 and somewhat more than .308. New hunters should consider whether they're comfortable with the recoil level before choosing this caliber.
.30-06 works for all Norwegian game, from roe deer with light bullets to the largest moose with heavy bullets. It's a versatile choice for anyone who only wants one caliber.
The caliber is somewhat less popular in Norway than 6.5x55 and .308, but has a loyal following, particularly among older hunters and those who hunt in open terrain where shot distances can be long.
