6.5 Creedmoor

6.5 Creedmoor

Calibers

A modern precision caliber. Flat trajectory and mild recoil. Growing popularity in Norway.

6.5 Creedmoor is the caliber everyone is talking about right now. Developed in 2007 for precision shooting, it has since taken the hunting market by storm.

The caliber delivers a very flat trajectory, mild recoil, and good accuracy. It uses the same bullet types as 6.5x55 (6.5 mm / .264), but in a shorter, more efficient case.

Advantages compared to 6.5x55: Better accuracy (designed for precision shooting from the start), shorter bolt throw (works in short actions), and more consistent chamber pressures.

For hunting in Norway, 6.5 Creedmoor performs identically to 6.5x55 for most purposes. With 143 grain (9.3 g) bullets, it meets the requirements for moose hunting.

The biggest advantage is the availability of match ammunition and high-quality bullets. Manufacturers are investing heavily in 6.5 Creedmoor, and the selection continues to grow.

The downside in Norway is that 6.5x55 already covers the same niche and is cheaper and more readily available. Many Norwegian hunters don't see the point in switching.

For new hunters starting from scratch, 6.5 Creedmoor is a good choice. For those who already have 6.5x55, there's little reason to switch.
