Laws (exam)
Important laws and regulations you need to know for the hunter's exam.
The legal portion of the hunter's exam covers the most important laws and regulations governing hunting in Norway.
The Wildlife Act is the primary law. It establishes that all wildlife is protected unless hunting has been opened, that the landowner has exclusive hunting rights on their property, and that hunting must be conducted responsibly.
The Hunting Seasons Regulation establishes the hunting seasons for all huntable species. You don't need to memorize all seasons, but you should know the principles: seasons vary between species and regions, and the municipality can restrict but not extend the seasons.
The Firearms Act regulates the acquisition, storage, and use of weapons. You should know the requirements for weapons permits and storage.
Terms you must know: Hunter fee (annual fee to the state), hunting license (permission from landowner), hunting permit (for deer species), minimum acreage (smallest area for a permit), vald (approved hunting area), hunt leader (responsible person during team hunts).
Tracking wounded game: You must know that tracking wounded game is required by law and that an approved tracking dog is mandatory for big game hunting.
Obligations when harvesting: Reporting obligation for deer species. Tagging of animals. Handling of meat.
Landowner rights: The hunting right belongs to the landowner. You never hunt without permission.
Tips: Most legal questions on the exam deal with fundamental principles, not detailed paragraph numbers. Understand the principles, don't memorize text.
