Hunting in Vestfold og Telemark

Vestfold og Telemark gives you access to two completely different hunting landscapes. In Vestfold there is roe deer hunting in the cultural landscape and along the coast — short distances, easily accessible, and a good entry point for new hunters. In Telemark the landscape changes dramatically: deep forests, steep valley sides, and finally the open mountain.

Hardangervidda covers parts of Vinje municipality, and wild reindeer hunting here is among the most sought-after in the country. The plateau is enormous, and hunting requires good planning and fitness. But it is one of the purest forms of hunting we have.

The red deer population in Telemark has grown steadily, especially in the central valleys. Roe deer hunting in Vestfold is productive with a dense population in manageable terrain. For small game hunters, the Telemark mountains offer ptarmigan hunting, although the terrain is often more demanding than in Northern Norway.

Terrain and nature

Vestfold og Telemark spans from the coastal landscape by the Oslo Fjord to the mountain heaths of Hardangervidda. Vestfold is Norway's smallest former county with intensive agriculture and small forests. Telemark has deep valleys (Tinn, Vinje) and large mountain areas. Hardangervidda in the west is Europe's largest high mountain plateau.
