Pine marten hunting is traditionally done with traps, but it can also be hunted with a rifle. The marten is nocturnal and difficult to observe, so trapping is the most common method.
Hunting with a dog that trees the marten is an exciting method where it is permitted. The dog finds the trail and follows it until the marten takes refuge in a tree.
Marten fur was historically very valuable, and fur trapping has long traditions in Norway.

Distribution
Måren finnes i skogområder over hele Norge, fra kysten til tregrensen. Den er mest tallrik i barskogen i Innlandet og Trøndelag.
Terrain
Barskog og blandingsskog. Måren er en dyktig klatrer som jakter ekorn og fugl i trærne. Den bruker hulrom i trær og steinurer som hi.
Identification
Mørk brun pels med gulhvitt brystskjold. Busket hale og spiss snute.
