Red Fox

About red fox hunting
Fox hunting has long traditions in Norway and is done in several ways: stalking, stand hunting, hunting with dogs, and baiting. The fox is an intelligent animal that requires patience and knowledge of its habits.
Bait hunting in winter is perhaps the most effective method. The fox is drawn to bait sites with carcasses, and the hunter sits on a stand nearby, often in an insulated hide for long sessions in the cold.
Hunting with running hounds, typically a Drever or Hamiltonstövare, is a traditional form where the dog drives the fox in a large circle back toward posted hunters. It requires good knowledge of the terrain and the fox's travel routes.
A small-caliber rifle (.22 Hornet, .222 Rem) or shotgun works well. Many also use a calling whistle to lure the fox in.
