Eider hunting is a traditional form of coastal hunting with deep roots in Norwegian culture. The hunt takes place from boats or fixed positions along the coast.
The bird is tough and resilient, requiring good shot placement and heavy shot loads. The eider flies heavily but steadily, offering a calmer shooting window than many other ducks.

Jakta er begrenset til kystfylkene. Ærfuglbestanden har gått tilbake, og det er viktig å sjekke lokale regler.

Distribution
Ærfuglen er utbredt langs hele norskekysten, fra Østfold til Finnmark. De tetteste bestandene finnes langs kysten av Nord-Norge og Vestlandet.
Terrain
Skjærgård, fjorder og kystfarvann. Ærfuglen lever av blåskjell og andre bunnlevende skalldyr som den dykker etter på grunt vann.
Identification
Hannen er hvit og svart med grønn nakkefarge. Hunnen er brunspraglet. Stor, kraftig sjøand.
Hunting Tips
Jakt fra fast post i skjærgården gir best resultat. Ærfuglen trekker mellom beite- og hvileplasser i faste ruter.
