Mallard

About mallard hunting
Mallard hunting is one of the most accessible forms of hunting in Norway. You need little equipment beyond a shotgun and ammunition, and the hunt often takes place at local ponds and waterways.
Stand hunting along flight routes between feeding and resting areas is the most common method. Ducks tend to fly out to open water at dusk and back to sheltered areas in the morning. These fixed routes offer good stand locations.
Decoys can be used to draw birds into a specific spot. Combined with a stand in reeds or shrub vegetation along the shore, this can provide excellent hunting.
A 12- or 20-gauge shotgun with steel shot size 4–5 is standard. Duck hunting requires practice at shooting moving birds.
