Greylag Goose

About greylag goose hunting
Greylag goose hunting is the most important goose hunt in Norway. It starts as early as August 10th, and the first few days can yield good results while the geese are still feeding consistently on local fields.
Hunting is typically done as stand hunting. You dig in next to a stubble field or grass meadow where the geese have been feeding, set out decoys, and wait for the flocks to come in. Several hunters often sit on posts along a flight route.
Calling with goose callers can be very effective. Modern full-body decoys, preferably with moving heads, combined with good calling can draw in flocks from great distances.
A 12-gauge shotgun with size 1–3 steel shot is standard. The goose is large and tough. Good kills require practice on passing birds.

Distribution
Identification
Gråbrun med oransje nebb og rosa bein. Stor og kraftig gås.
Hunting Tips
Rekognoser kvelden før for å se hvor gåsa beiter. Sett opp lokkegjess i naturlige formasjoner. Liggestilling gir best kamuflasje.
